jonah has a habit of talking incessantly when he's tired and supposed to be going to sleep. he talks about anything and everything no matter how they might relate to one another. one example: driving home in the car late the other night he says, "bats are silly. they sleep upside down with their feet, not their arms. people lay down like *this* on their pillows. pillows are soft. doggies' ears are soft..."
last night was no exception. isaak was already asleep in his bed, so i let jonah lay down with me in my bed. he was jib jabbering on about the shadows and the noises he heard [i.e. daddy's snoring through the baby monitor] which reminded him he was going to tell me a story. how i wish i'd had a recording device. in short, there was a monster who came to town and the grown-ups yelled at him, but the kids knew he was nice. so he went back home to where all his neighbors were monsters. "and that's the story of the monster story," he concluded. he's got a pretty active imagination. the story was much better in jonah's words and voice. he hasn't even seen monsters inc. yet, i told him tomorrow i'll take him to the movie store to borrow a movie i think he might like.
then i asked him what the best part of the day was for him. "spending the night with you," he says. with my heart melting i say, "really?! mine too." then he says, "well, yeah. and the singing cards*."
well, i'll take it.
p.s. and thanks for wetting the bed, buddy. i love you, too.
*the cards w/ music or sound in them that i yelled** at him for at the store today when he took all his favorites down while the ice cream was melting.
**feeling some guilt. i guess he really liked them.
