me and 13 local native american tribes hold this mountain sacred. joe and i both attended nau in flagstaff, az and never have i felt more like myself than when i lived there. we both long to live somewhere that better suits us than this 'valley of the sun'. we're not even that picky, we'd live anywhere in the rocky mountains where we could still make a decent living. but since we're stuck in the 'ole QC* for now, we'll have to settle for a visit here and there. so, me and the boys headed north this weekend to pay homage and stay at a cabin with some friends in parks [an itty bitty town just outside flagstaff].
i got to take a nature walk this the morning all by myself. alone. nobody else. hardly even a man-made structure in sight. the solitude was refreshing, but i couldn't help but imagine being disemboweled by a bear [thank you this week's grey's anatomy episode] while i made many futile attempts not to roll my ankle while maneuvering through the obstacle course of pine needles and volcanic rock. it really was beautiful though. the weather was warm as long as i kept moving, with a bit of a breeze. it was the highlight of the day for me and a very welcome variance in activity from my trusty elliptical.the boys are having a great time playing with the "tummy", jadyn, and the other kids. they're driving vehicles beyond their skill level [look out], flying kites [ikey has had better luck at this than all the daddies so far], searching for treasure [i.e. joe's cell phone i lost in the brush this morning] and digging in the dirt [and eating it, for some].
*don't get me wrong, i'm not complaining. queen creek has its perks, i'm sure. [what are they again?] well you know, cheap housing and...and...well, you get what you pay for, so they say. but we do like our home and we can bear the distance considering that there's not really anywhere within 150 miles that's really abundantly better anyway.

How very Elizabeth Bennett-esque to take a nature-walk ALONE! I envy her every time I see those scenes :) Fun times - I'm glad you had fun!
a walk, alone - who heard of such a thing? i'm glad you got to go back to the mountains that have been calling your name.
ps - i hope you found joe's phone. i lost todd's keys at the mall... not a happy camper (todd). i stayed there til we found them.
Do u know that song "I walk alone"? It goes, "I walk alone , because to tell you the truth, I am lonely. I don't mind being lonely 'cause my heart tells me you are lonely too." Please walk alone and tell me you are lonely too etc etc. I think you just wanted Joe to send his love and kisses and come and be by your side so you chose to just get away and let mother nature warm you heart. I'm glad the bears weren't out to ruin your walk with nature.
As a former camp director, it seems, we had a rule about hiking alone. You DO know that one should never hike alone and especially if you lose the phone, your only method of contact when danger surprises you.
Just 'ole granny reminiscing as well.
It is nice to escape the busy every day world and just relax.
