sleep tight

once upon a few days ago, i decided it was time.

time to finally bite the bullet and start making the boys go to bed by themselves. i've got homework to do, you know, while the house is quiet and void of interruptions. all too often i fall asleep to the point of no return when i have to lay down with the boys at night. and joe has an ongoing love affair with his garage, especially during arizona's winter months, so he can't be bothered with an early bedtime either.

i've been putting this off because i know there's only this small window of opportunity when these guys will actually want their mother to snuggle them all night long. jonah already has rejected the old spooning for just holding my hand and knowing that i'm there to ward off any unwanted imaginings. how much longer is it really before he's sleeping in his underwear and acne-inhibiting face gel, dreaming of a much younger girl than myself. i am the jealous type.

as for now, you can imagine this new arrangment did not go over big with the boys. there was a lot of crying and pleading, "but mama, i just love you so much and i will miss you if you don't lay down with us." even isaak, amidst the defiant kicking and screaming managed to prick my icy, determined heart with, "i love you though."

they almost had me.

almost.

however, i endured and they eventually fell asleep. the real clincher is i can still hear the sniffling for hours afterward, even in their sleep. it has continued all week anyhow. [i actually postponed writing about it until i knew for sure i wouldn't have to abort the mission.] joe's had such luck on some nights where there wasn't even a cry to be heard.

lucky for me
these guys still don't sleep through the night. it's only a matter of hours before they're calling my name, wandering the dark house looking for the light they call their mother. by then i'm usually ready and more than happy to "snuggle up" at their request. i'll take it while i can and before it's gone i'd like for somebody to please discover a way to bottle it up.

It will be my turn all too soon! I've tried and have pulled her back into my bed, two is too many, I think J wants to come back sometime soon.

That is sweetly precious, Faith. Let me know how the bottling process goes.

What a sweet picture. There's nothing cuter than a sleeping child.
