i took isaak to the doctor the other day for his 18 month* well visit. according to his lifetime immunization record, there are 12 scheduled vaccines before the age of 2, most of them requiring between 2-5 shots [boosts] for each to be completed, and some of them mixing in more than one vaccine in one shot [i.e. MMR, DTP]. isaak has received 3 of these vaccines so far, 8 shots total. i'm not an expert, i'm not a physician, i'm not a liberal, i'm not an activist, i'm on the fence. i have done some research on the subject, listened to the opinions of others, and decided that i'm undecided. so i have gotten immunizations for the boys, just very slowly. if the hospital had asked my permission before sticking another needle into my 2 hour old infant, i would have definitely refused the Hep B, at that time. my boys get one vaccine per doctor visit so as to not overload their young immune systems. jonah has received all his immunizations so far, just not before the age of 2. ikey got his 3rd PCV7 shot the other day which was supposedly a very "benign vaccine with no expectant side effects besides maybe some pain at the injection site". my poor baby was pointing to his leg the rest of the day saying, owie. owie. and spent the next day limping on that leg with a fever of 101 F. i would not like to know how a less benign vaccine would effect this baby boy.so, tell me. what's your stance?

admit it, you've just been dying to find a topic so you could use the poll feature on your blog.
don't get me started on hep b for newborns. it is amazing that it was manipulated into standard procedure. the disease is only contracted through bodily fluids. the last time i checked, newborns weren't sexually active, sharing needles, or using public toilets. i guess if they are sharing bottles at daycare that could potentially be an issue . . . but there is no reason it can't wait until a 2 month well check or later. i love how they tell you not to immunize when your kids is sick, but it's no problem when they are a couple hours (or minutes!) old being monitored for infection, learning how to breate, eat, etc. it makes no sense. i just can't trust those pharmacutical companies (or spell them probably).
i just read "the vaccine book" by dr. sears. it is definitely a good read with a fair analysis of the situation. you should check it out.
