a day in the life

me and the boys woke up this morning to a gentle rain and quiet, rolling thunder. it's calming and invigorating all in itself, setting the tone for the day.

first thing, we went outside to say hello to the raindrops and then on to our traditional multigrain cheerios with bananas and rice milk. while the boys make cookies and burritos with their blue and green playdough, i check my google reader and smile at the sweet email my husband left for me this early, early morning when he couldn't sleep. [still jet lagging, i guess]. and if that wasn't enough to start the day off right, i also received a couple more sweet, unexpected emails from friends, too. this is going to be a good day, i can tell.

the phone rings and jonah jumps at the chance to use his newly acquired telephone skills. "helwo? . . . what are you doing today?" . . . (gasp!) "mama! [said with his own french-like enunciation] it's paris's mom and she's going to the hopsical!"
(sigh.) not again. her body seems to reject 3rd trimester pregnancy.
"okay, pete, let me talk to her."
"mama, she's going to the hopsical to get her baby out!"
"well, let's hope not," i say, disappointing him.

isaak walks into my office holding the wipes and the aquaphor and says, "mama, i'm stunk. [c]an oo change it and [m]edicine on my [b]um?" an indicator that i should probably step away from the computer and give the boys some attention before they completely grow up while i'm not looking.
so into the tub, we've got to get ready to go pick up paris on the way to aunt mara's house to babysit her boys . . . moments later a distressed jonah yells, "mama! ikey pee'd on me!"
alright. alright! i'm coming.

coming from jonah, a "hopsical" almost sounds like a yummy treat.
