sometime in my childhood years i began to unconsciously compile a mental list of things that i should do before i die just so i could say i did. the list is ongoing and open to revisions. it includes monumental and trivial accomplishments, some of which i think are there to make me happy and some are just for the experience. some have remained there unchanging while others have matured with age.

some examples in no particular order:

-own a horse [still unaccomplished, but not forgotten]
-break a bone [check. x8]
-be on a television show [check.]
-run away [ ]
-sky dive [check.]
-scuba dive [check.]
-learn to surf [ ]
-hike the grand canyon [ ]
-work on a ranch [check.]
-drive across the country [check.]
-travel to a foreign country [check x10]
-visit all 50 states [ ]
-sing for an audience [check.]
-learn a new instrument [check.]
-record my own songs [check.]
-pierce something [tongue, check. nose, check.]
-get a tattoo [reconsidered]
-learn to speak a foreign language [5 yrs. of french, yet still not fluent]
-get a college degree [check.]
-have a "real" job [check.]
-fall in love [check.]
-get your heart broken badly, at least once. [check.]
-get married [check.] once [still optimistic]
-experience child birth [check. check.]
-raise children [a work in progress]
-get paid to do something i love [ ]

this weekend i added to my trivial aspect of the list, thanks to seth being inducted into the XXX club...

-ride mechanical bull [check.]

and in accompaniment...

-make a complete and utter fool of yourself [who am i kidding? this is old-hat.]

thanks for getting old like the rest of us, seth. and even though you lacked the guts to ride, happy birthday anyway.
