gearing up

when jonah woke up i told him happy birthday and he just looked around with a confused scowl on his face and said, "it's my birthday?"

"uh, yeah!"

"well, where are all the decorations?"

not all he had envisioned for his big 5, i guess. so, we whipped up some birthday-boy-requested pancakes, stacked them up high, and stuck a candle in them, for effect. doesn't he look pleased?

Jonah5thBday1when daddy got off work, jonah and i met him downtown for the big surprise birthday present. we thought we'd let him go to the store and pick out the perfect bike, try it on for size, and get some practice in before tomorrow's rally.
[lucky for me, he picked the one that I'd spent two weeks hunting down with the best deal.]

lucky for jonah, it was also aunt mara's birthday and she was in for a big day, too. so her boys got to come over and spend the night and watch the polar express in 3D. [note jonah's best vanna white above, presenting his newly gifted robe and movie] they stayed up late laughing and talking and were up at 5am the next morning. not exactly a sleep over.

and not exactly a bad start for just gearing up for what has become a birthweek...

a boy needs a bike - jewel
