2 cool 4 school

today was jonah's first day back to preschool. he's at a new preschool this year and most of the kids in his class know each other already from last year. so, as we were driving to the school i was asking him if he was ready to make some new friends. "yeah," he said and then contemplated that for a minute and asked me, "how do you make new friends?" well, heck if i know! i wanted to tell him. no offense buddy, but i'm glad it's you and not me. been. there. and i've learned that new social situations scare me to death. which is why i still try to avoid them at all costs. it's like all those insecurities you thought you were leaving behind at high school graduation never really go away. i did try to give him a few pointers that i thought might work in a preschool classroom, though: introduce yourself, be nice, share, don't exclude people, don't hit or cry when you don't get your way. you know, all that stuff that we adults are still working on. he seemed enthusiastic so, i kissed him and off he scampered without hardly a hint of hesitation. so brave. so much to learn, but there are some things i hope he doesn't. good luck little man.
