the fruits of our labors, part 2: plan B

lucky for us, my mom was able to come over and take on the boys at a moment's notice. i, of course, posted a blog entry, updated my facebook status, then packed a few things, took a shower and put joe in charge of waiting by the phone for the doctor-on-call to call back while i read the boys a bedtime story.

of course, it was him. joe was all a fluster and after a super fun game of phone tag, i found out that not only do i not get my chosen doctor i had been relying on for the past 9 months, but i also am going to get the dr. i quit seeing after having jonah.

but nonetheless, MR. OB/GYN met us at Banner Gateway, ignored much of my pre-op concerns and began prep to cut me open somewheres around 11:30 pm along with several chipper nurses and a spunky little anesthesiologist.

i was very nervous. i didn't remember much from the last time due to the nature of emergency, so this was all pretty much new to me.

once i was very well drugged, joe and his digital recording device were able to join us. it's all a little cloudy, but i do remember "lots of pulling and tugging," worrying that joe would drop the Flip into my open cavity, feeling really awful whenever my blood pressure would drop, and the doctor carrying on a conversation with the nurses as if he wasn't cutting my guts open-something about his favorite movies this year and american idol... [hello! i'm bleeding and exposed here. focus.]

and then there was the smell of my flesh burning-cauterizing, i suppose...[paraphrasing]
Me: "what is that smell?"
Spunky Anesthesiologist: "that's your fat burning."
M:"hm, feel free to burn all the fat you want."
SA: "i'm hungry. i want a hamburger. doesn't it make you hungry?"
M: "um, that's a little cannibalistic, i think. hope i don't get stuck on a deserted island with you."
SA: "oh, don't worry. i won't eat you."

okay, we're good then. i guess...what???

and now we're getting close and wagering whether our baby girl was going to be born today or tomorrow.  then that little nurse jumps on me like a linebacker to push the baby out and there she is @ 11:59 pm. it was today, january 18th with only seconds remaining. but i'm just waiting to hear the cries. is she pink? 10 fingers, 10 toes?

joe says she did have the cord wrapped around her neck and was quite blue at first, but the nurses say that is normal. and you better believe that my girl has a set of pipes on her. once she started, she didn't stop either-carrying on about being cold and hungry all through the wee hours of morning.

music to my ears.
